The weekly menu and cooking dinner ahead? Would go way smoother if we didn't break the grill tonight replacing the propane tank.
We cooked salmon burgers in the oven (also lemon pepper chicken for tomorrow) and we boiled the most beautiful head of cauliflower I have ever seen (purchased at our farmers market where we actually bought produce instead of just baked goods and kettle corn), so our house pretty much smells like ass
So, Monday:
Salmon burgers (with fan-freaking-tastic farmers market garnish, like giant red onion and succulent tomato)
cauliflower
sliced strawberries
(and Ben and the kids will probably have tater tots and wear their lunch lady hairnets and serve them with a slotted spoon)
Tuesday:
Asian chicken salads (the aforementioned baked lemon pepper chicken, baby field greens, freakishly huge farmers market green onions that are too tall for the veggie drawer, red pepper, green pepper, blanched sugar snap peas, mandarin oranges-- or maybe clementines. We like to throw crunchy chow mein noodles on top, and we have an okay 5-calorie Asian spray dressing or a 70-calorie-per-serving Trader Joe's spicy peanut dressing)
The kids will probably pick at this and eat Annie's ravioli, if you want to know the truth
Wednesday:
Grilled (or probably baked actually since the grill is, um, totallyfuckingbroken) pork chops (and Ben is especially excited about his lemon pepper marinade, which is a departure from our usual barbecue sauce)
corn on the cob
brussels sprouts
**and this is where things take a turn for the shitty**
Thursday:
pizza
Friday: (really half assed because this is the day Ben has his face rebuilt)
grilled cheese
tomato soup
grapes
frozen carrot/broccoli/cauliflower medley
Saturday:
Trader Joe's-- we go in the afternoon and let Harry push the annoying little cart and pick out something to make/heat up
Sunday:
a restaurant somewhere that serves something we don't have to cook.
What about you? What are you eating this week?
tomorrow will be Trader Joe's Thai red curry--chicken for Husband and Ethan, tofu or just veggies for me.
ReplyDeleteaaaand, that's as far as I got.
we're eating the free food my hotel serves at "social hour"...
ReplyDeleteNothing that sounds as good as what you're having!
ReplyDeleteI'll be coming to your house for dinner!
ReplyDeleteThe thought of cooking meat exhausts me. That is why we have beans and rice so much. I really need to push myself a little more.
One night of pizza isn't bad! We do it almost every week too, and one large pizza last at least 3 meals for us (dinner, lunch, and dinner normally). As for other meals, I bet tonight will be chicken, green beans, and mashed potatoes (from a package) - something I make at least once a week!
ReplyDeleteHMM...Good question. I see a lot of whole wheat pasta and Lean Cuisines in my future. Can I just come to your house? I'll bring vodka.
ReplyDeleteOMG this is so timely! I go to the store Mondays and am always like, what the hell should we eat this week? I have a list of usuals in my repertoire, but it's nice to see what other people do to change it up a bit.
ReplyDeleteTonight: grilled salmon and rice w/ vegs.
Tues: pistachio chicken salad w/avocado dressing- from S. Beach cookbook, it's actually really tasty
Wed.: caprese salad, grilled shrimp skewers
Th: basmati rice, indian "packets" from the store and naan. These are great in a pinch, and they actually taste pretty good!
F: salad nicoise
Sat and Sun: at the in-laws, let them figure it out!
My son usually ends up w/ pasta "with 'nofing' on it!" and unfrozen edamame. Every. f'ing. night.
I heard a little kid order a hamburger and no salad on it! It was cute! When his porcine father said the same thng, it wasn't cute at all!
ReplyDeleteThere was a Cookie mag article about "just get me to Wednesday" that had recipes for a big meal to make Sunday night that could keep you going til Wednesday, and this post made me think of that. It's true for us too. We can usually make nice meals and then it's Thursday and we open the freezer or order take out. I think it's okay. And my son loves these mini-chicken apple sausages. Of course, he loves to dip them in ketchup and then just eat ketchup w a spoon but whatever.
