Peoria weekend

We took a trip to Peoria last weekend and had a lovely time taking the kids to see some of our favorite things.

Like Lydia.

And their grandparents.

We went over to my oldest and dearest friend Katie's house for dessert on Saturday night (seriously, we have been BFF since first grade, and we're really freaking old), and her daughter Leila and Jack played so nicely together. They even went for a ride on Leila's choo-choo. As they hugged goodbye, Katie was like, "Oh my God! We have waited so long for this!" And she was right. There is absolutely nothing like knowing the people you knew when you you were a kid now that you're all grown up.

On Friday we went out to dinner with my friend Kelly and her husband and laughed so hard. Last time we went out to dinner with them, Kelly brought a really mean note I wrote her after a high school fight we had that was so mean (and ridiculously funny like 15 years later). Kelly and I had a million advetures in her powder blue Ford Tempo (including a panic induced trip across the highway median because I am a spaz), and we used to pass the bitchiest notes in junior high in a Minnie Mouse notebook we named Skinny Minnie. Now she has 2 little girls, too, and all of our kids played together on Saturday. So trippy and awesome. (It's been a long day, and I just had a glass of wine (that Harry picked out because it has a bomb on the label. Everything about that sentence was so class), so that's why my descriptive skillz are a bit lacking).

I have more pictures, especially from an apple orchard we went to-- the same one I went to as a kid and Ben and I went to in college and where a billy goat peed on my mom a little-- sorry I didn't tell you, mom-- he was crossing the billy goat bridge, and you were underneath it, and it was just little pee-- thought it would be better if you just didn't know... But I'll have to save them for another night. An earlier night.

Are you from Peoria?? I used to live there! And now live in Madison!! I never thought I'd miss Peoria, but in many ways, I do. The people I knew there were so wonderful. The Illinois River view from along the bluff...One World Cafe...Prairie something (?) Park...Peoria Heights!! Looking back, there are some pretty neat things there. Not like Madison, but cool in their own way. Memories...

I knew about the goat pee at the time, but compared to the lines of people for each attraction, the freezing cold, and the noise, it was the best part! Oh, the goat pee, and the kids' delight in the whole experience were the best parts.

  7. I can't wait to take my kids to my favorite spot near where I grew up - but they won't really enjoy until they are school-aged.

    Sounds like a great weekend!

  8. My oldest, dearest friends and I have just started popping out the babes. I can't wait until they're all running around together! Sounds like a fun weekend - I'm jealous.

  9. I love that you have friends from your childhood that you can hang out with and your kids can grow up together. I don't have anyone like that, and as a result I'm totally obsessed with Izzy's new little friend and having them be besties forever now. The crazy is starting so early.

  10. Oh, Tanner's. I love that place. I always passed it on my way into town when I'd go home to Dixon for the weekends. (I really went home far too much. Especially my freshman year.) Good to see Lydia is still doing well! :)
