Our canceled vacation really messed with my reading habits this month, friends. I wanted to hang on to my road trip books in case we got to take another stab at a vacay, but I also wanted to read. I suspended my holds at the library for our trip, so I had nothing in the pipeline, and I had to just go to the library and take what was on the shelf like a regular person (and not a weirdly competitive library person). Soooooo, here’s my list— still some great books but also some weird ones.
November 9 by Colleen Hoover: SO BAD. I am ashamed that I finished it **Audio
The Swell by Allie Reynolds: The very meh-est of meh thrillers. **2022
The Disinvited Guest by Carol Goodman: A spooky pandemic thriller that I really wanted to like. **2022
You Have a Friend in 10A by Maggie Shipstead: Meh. I cannot get into story collections lately. **2022
Verity by Colleen Hoover: Listen, Colleen Hoover is terrible as a general rule, but she is also SO READABLE. This is my favorite of hers so far.
The Last to Vanish by Megan Miranda: I do not LOVE her books, but this one was a quick, spooky read (erm, listen). **2022 **Audio
It All Comes Down to This by Therese Anne Fowler: I thought this book would be better based on reviews. I just adored one character (the cardiologist) and wanted the whole story to be about her, but she had sisters, and meh. **2022
We Are the Brennans by Tracey Lange: A good pool read. Not as good as the books its blurb compares it to, but satisfying.
The Stand In by Lily Chu: I would have liked this book better if it had been like 75 pages shorter. **2022
Upgrade by Blake Crouch: I got this one to listen to with Ben on our trip while Minnie was asleep and the other kids were plugged into their screens, but I consumed it alone and liked it a lot. **2022 **Audio
The Bookish Life of Nina Hill by Abbi Waxman: So, it turns out that the Waxman I really liked last month was the sequel to this. And now I like it even more! **Audio
The Overnight Guest by Heather Gudenkauf: SO SCARY. Liked it a lot. **2022
Life’s Too Short by Abby Jimenez: LOVED THIS ONE. **Audio
The Grace Year by Kim Liggett: This was awesome. Very Handmaid’s Tale or The Power. LOVED it. **Audio
Mouth to Mouth by Antoine Wilson: Read this one— it’s quick and sharp and quirky. **2022 **Audio
Vacationland by Meg Mitchell Moore: I liked this spare little book— really good characters, and Moore made me care about them. **2022
On Rotation by Shirlene Obuobi: A great story with an interesting setting. Romance, yes, but better than most. **2022
The It Girl by Ruth Ware: I really like her books, but this one was especially great. Very Secret History meets Mean Girls. **2022 **Audio
The Displacements by Bruce Holsinger: This was excellent. Sad, snidely funny, full of great characters and a fast-paced plot. **2022
Big Girl by Mecca Jamilah Sullivan: THIS BOOK. Wow. It’s just wonderful— maybe my favorite of the whole year. **2022
