Good news: I made an appointment with Jack so I would be sure to go
Bad news: The front desk scheduled the appointments back-to-back so I was there for freaking ever (2 HOURS)
Good news: No cavities for Jack
Bad news: We have been asking for an ortho consult for literal YEARS only to be told he didn’t need one, and today when he is in HIGH SCHOOL, and we have one kid out of braces and 2 kids in them, the doc referred us to the ortho. WHYYYY NOOOOOOOW?
Good news: No new cavities for me
Bad news: The old ones that I never got filled still need to be filled. BOOOOO.
For someone with lovely teeth, I really hate going to the dentist. Anyone else?
I have serious dental problems and go to the dentist or periodontist every three months. I have anxiety every time I go and really hate it and wonder why being a responsible adult involves dumb personal care like the dentist. So, yeah, I feel you (except I do NOT have lovely teeth like you!).
ReplyDeleteUgh I hate that for you. It's really the pre-dentist anxiety that gets me the most, and I would truly hate that quarterly.
DeleteMy kids go to a pediatric dentist and had their appt last week. My oldest is a very sensitive kid and every other dentist appt has been God awful. This time? He exceeded my expectations by 1,000%. He sat in the chair by himself (previously I had to hold him) and let them clean and floss his teeth. I was floored and was like - who is this child? It was Will's first appt but they were only able to look at his teeth which is fine. I didn't expect them to be able to clean them. It took until Paul's last appt for them to clean any of his teeth and they only got half done before he refused to cooperate anymore.
ReplyDeleteI do not mind the dentist but I go by myself! Although, funny story, I tried to change practices because my hygienist was SOO CHATTY. I went to the new practice in January only to find that - surprise - she moved to this practice, too! So I guess it's the universes sign that I need to put up with a chatty person (I would prefer minimal small talk at the dentist because it is so hard to talk w/ their fingers and equipment in my mouth and prolongs the appt).
I'm 1 of 5 and I remember my mom dropping 2-3 of us off at the dentist and then coming back to get us hours later! But this was in small town ND - and she (funnily) gave us money to go down the straight to - wait for it - Dairy Queen (!!) after our dentist appt! I am giggling recalling this but I am sure she was like - well, what else are they going to do while their siblings get their teeth cleaned. I also remember her telling us to NOT tell the dentist/dentist staff that she gave us money for DQ.
HAHAHAHAHA-- DQ post-dentist is classic. Dorothy and Coop go to a pediatric practice that is amazing. They have large benches for the kids to lie down on and TVs playing disney movies on the ceiling. Very low stress dentistry. BUT we only got referred there because Coop had a shameful baby tooth cavity, and they took Dorothy, too, because they're so close together. I think our insurance is going to make Minnie go to the big people dentist **whomp whomp**
DeleteYes ours is amazing! They have this huge fake tree in the middle of the room where they clean teeth with different animals. It is adorable and there is so much to look at to distract them!! So far insurance has been fine with us going there. I could not subject a regular dentist to my sensitive little guy. Every time we have an appt I come home and talk to my husband about how I can’t imagine a dentist/hygienist wanting to specialize in young children!!
DeleteI don't mind the dentist, even though I had a lot of issues as a kid (teeth growing in early, having to have teeth pulled).
ReplyDeleteUgh - ortho consults. Both kids are going to need braces, but my hubby is NOT a fan of the cost so we've stalled with moving forward with the ortho for one child who is almost old enough for it. I really need to tackle getting everyone on the same page this year, but I am not looking forward to that.
I have severe anxiety about the dentist. Ugh. I'm sorry you have cavities to fill and I'm sorry to hear about the ortho stuff. My kid has been seeing an orthodontist for two or three years now, and so far they just look at her teeth and say, "Not yet." But I know it's coming, and when it's coming it will be $$$$$.
ReplyDeleteOh ugh, why now indeed! Both my boys had braces, and they both took exactly 26 months, after being told it would be 18 for my older son and 12-18 for my younger. My younger son had braces during the early days of the pandemic, so suffered from not being able to get them adjusted, etc. I am glad to have that in the rearview mirror!
ReplyDeleteNot a fan of the dentist, but I go diligently, because I'd rather deal with a small issue right away than with a big issue down the road. Makes sense? ;)
