1. Harry had a great, low key birthday.
He had friends over yesterday to demolish the rest of his cake, and he is throwing himself a party the week after next. We had a delicious steak and scallops dinner that Ben threw together after work, and he adored his gifts.
Her face. MY FACE. |
2. COOPER IS GOING TO NATIONALS!!
He qualified for the USA Diving Junior National Championships in ALL THREE EVENTS: 1-meter springboard, 3-meter springboard, and 5meter platform. We are over-the-moon proud of him and had a lovely time with Ben’s parents watching the meet.
3. Dorothy ended her dance season (except for nationals) with a recital weekend that we both (all?) adored.
Her 5 dances were close together, so she was assigned a quick change dressing room, which turned out to just be backstage in the wings. SO SO SO FUN. Her dance teacher are wonderful sparkly unicorn people, and it was wonderful to watch them pump all the kids up before they went onstage. Dorothy always has such a good time at her recitals (which are in a GORGEOUS theater), and even with Minnie in tow for the dress rehearsal morning, we were thrilled.
Pre-rehearsal coffee. We raced down State Street with Minnie in a stroller ad made it to the theater EARLY with COFFEE. A miracle. |
Once she was dressed for her final Dane and Ben collected Minnie, Dorothy got to relax in the house and watch dances— her favorite. |

Dorothy and I have been getting post-rehearsal pancakes since 2017 (minus 2019 when we went to a hippie coiffed shop because the recital was at The Sylvee and 2020 and 2021 when we had to get home pancakes **whomp whomp**) Here she is in 2017 and last weekend **heart eyes**
I saw NONE of the actual show because it went EVEN FASTER than rehearsal, but I really did love being in the wings. Dance mom forever, I guess.
Minnie and I spent a pleasant hour at the downtown branch of our public library this week wheelie Cooper was at dive and Jack took Dorothy swimming. SHE LOVED THE KIDDIE ROOM so much, but who wouldn’t?
OMG! Congrats to Cooper! How exciting! And yay for a lovely seventeenth birthday, and hooray that Dorothy had such a great dance finale! So many things to be proud of!!!
ReplyDeleteit's been busy but lovely so far.
Delete1. That cake looks amazing.
ReplyDelete2. OMGOMGOMG CONGRATS TO COOPER! What an exciting accomplishment! That is just fabulous.
3. Yay for Dorothy's dance! It really looks like a lot of fun. What a talented young woman!
4. What a fun looking library.
5. POOL DAYS FOREVERRRR.
Loved the cake even though he wanted whipped cream frosting, and buttercream is the only way to go.
DeleteWhat a fantastic summer you and your family are having! Yay!
ReplyDeleteyay is right :)
DeleteWow, Cooper! What an exciting time for everyone. I know it's crazy...but also, that lazy pool day seems like the perfect foil to the hectic pace. Love it!
ReplyDeletePS. I want to come play in that library!
It's the coolest library-- I knew i was worth the sweaty walk and that she would love it.
DeleteCongrats to Cooper! I love her quote! And the dance recital looked so fun and festive! The costumes are really something. This whole world is foreign to me since I grew up in a teeny tiny town that did not have any dance programs (or much in the way of extracurriculars, generally speaking).
ReplyDeleteDance is a whole new world for me, too, because I am NOT a dancer and never was-- it's like being an anthropologist observing a whole new culture.
DeleteYour kids are all so involved. Amazing! :)
ReplyDeleteSO INVOLVED
DeleteCongrats to Cooper! That's so awesome! And congrats to Dorothy and Minnie (hey, new library!) too.
ReplyDeleteAlso--I have the same dress you're rocking in the picture with Minnie trying to blow on Harry's birthday candles. I love the side ties on that one. :)
That dress is a GEM— I have had it for years, and it’s still in great shape.
DeleteYou already know how exciting it was to see Cooper's name and quote on NBC15! :) And the dance recital sounds awesome! (Also awesome? that cake! yum...)
