5 on a Friday: The The-theme-this-week-is-clearly-trickle-of-consciousness-so-let’s-keep-that-going Edition

 1. Panic at the kitchen over here because YOU GUYS by the time I write my next Friday post, THANKSGIVING WILL BE OVER. And I have done NOTHING to prep (besides order a bird and buy a tablecloth and some napkins and some fun color-on place mats). WHAT IN THE HECK—this is very not like me. I am sure it will all be fine, but I wonder when will it all be fine, you know?

2. I decided that this year, I want to add to my Christmas decor for the bedrooms. I started accumulating holiday throw pillows from Costco for my room and probably all of the couches, and the other day, I scored the most amazing holiday comforters at Macy’s for $20/each. 5 beds for $100– are you even kidding me???

I got these for Ben and me

And these for all 3 boys

3. Minnie is studying pizza shops in her class right now (and it’s so creative and awesome— this week, they made a pizza delivery map and included special landmarks, and it was a delight to hear about), so we had to make it at home. And she really wanted me to send pics to her teacher, so I did even though I am sure her teacher didn’t care, but she’s so darn nice, you’d never know it

That Target brand organic pasta sauce pictured above was surprisingly excellent, and I will get it again. We also used THIS super easy bread machine dough recipe and then made it into 5 little balls and let the kids go to town (Ben and I gorged on sushi later). Minnie used maybe half a bag of cheese (the boys shredded a block of moz from our fave cheese store, and it was so creamy and delightful, but Minnie really enjoys scooping handfuls from a bag, so **shrug**), and this technique turned out to be delicious. The cheese on top formed a crispy mound, and the cheese underneath melted, and it was like a mozzarella stick on crust.

4. Bringing a whole plate of muffins somewhere in your purse is a normal thing that normal people do, right? (Also, they were all to keep Minnie happy at hockey because she only eats the very top, so she goes through them fast).

Also it didn’t work because I forgot her unicorn water bottle and offered her Ice Mountain like she is an animal, and she was piiiiiiiiiiiiissed.

5. Speaking of my purse! It’s not even close to my largest purse, and it holds WAY TOO MUCH. I dumped it out at diving practice the day after hockey, and YOU GUYS. WHY WOULD I CARRY ALL THAT STUFF????

  1. Purses are crazy. Mine has so much crap in it. And when my kid was a toddler, it included toddler stuff too. Looks like your purse is a real workhorse! Love the pizza photos! So fun!

  2. That is a lot of stuff in your purse! I also like a large purse and sometimes I wonder, do I need four pair of sunglasses at all time? Probably the answer is no.

  3. I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum (surprise, surprise) and I often don't have ENOUGH stuff in my purse. And by purse, I mean fanny pack. I have a "church" purse and a fanny pack for all the other days and that is it. But I had a HUGE purse when I had preschoolers, so you are firmly in that season of needing...a lot of stuff. Always prepared.

It took me a minute to realize "besides order a bird" didn't mean you were getting a pet bird. It is 10:10 am. There is no excuse for that taking me several long seconds to process.

And wow - that is a generous helping of cheese on Minnie's pizza. My kids would BE LOVING that. Gold stars for bringing all the learning home and for making your own dough. I'm a hard pass now and go for storebought Naan bread as the base.

  4. That's a lot of schtuff in your purse, Sarah! LOL. I have a Coach briefcase for work (from A when I earned tenure--I wanted a massage gift cert and was kinda pissed about it, haha), but otherwise, I'm just car keys and phone (with wallet glued on its back). Probably because I don't have to schelp kid stuff, but it's very freeing.

  5. Hahahaha.... I was wondering how Minnie's pizza with the enormous mound of cheese turned out! I think she's invented a new style.
So I excitedly went to the Macy's website to check out that bedding- those prices are crazy!!! I'm definitely ordering something for my daughter. My son already has holiday bedding, and my husband and I have a king bed, which makes it way more expensive. But I love the idea.

  6. I love the pizza lesson too. So fun. I bet the teacher does enjoy seeing the photos. Preschool teachers are a special breed that way. The purse dumping is so relatable, but somehow much more entertaining when you do it. Apparently you need to do a post on the many storage options you have, because HOW CAN YOU STORE HOLIDAY COMFORTERS? I love the idea, but my mind is spinning when I try to imagine where I would store those puppies.

  7. This whole pizza making thing at home had my buy a premade pizza dough yesterday. I think I will be doing that next Friday (no Thanksgiving here).

I used to have a big purse with tons of stuff. but downsized this year. As long as it fits my kindle I am fine. And I don't have to carry the husbands stuff anymore. Win.

  9. OMG, the holiday comforters! Amazing! Thanks for the tip.

Also, Minnie is very serious about the pizza making :) love how focused she is :)

  10. That is absolutely the correct amount of cheese, Minnie. And those comforters are a steal! I decided last year we all needed Christmas comforters and spent more than that for only 3 beds.

  11. OMG do I need a Christmas comforter? You can't go wrong with $20 a set!

  12. Meanwhile, I'm thinking, "purse? people still carry those?" :) I (single woman who hates extra stuff) use my pockets for most things. Jacket pockets, to be clear. But the backpack for work... now that is another story. It's astonishing what I unearth in there... Also, please tell Minnie that I'll be over for pizza in a few. ;)
