We Heart Sea Pines

We had a delightful Hilton Head trip. There were jellyfish and sting rays and also a rip tide. But still! It was wonderful.

Ben did some work, and I adored solo parenting from the beach. He also took the big boys to Savannah, and I took the youngest three back to the beach one day.

Coop likely has a future in civil engineering given how amaze balls his sand castles were (he stayed through the tide coming in every afternoon to see how many waves the could withstand).

No one got sunburned. We ate delightfully terrible food. Ben and I went to Salty Dog sans kids every night. We also got to take a lovely beach walk in the mornings. It was a dream.

I always curse my fear of flying midway through a driving trip. And also, we need 3 suites at Embassy these days, so a drive is not exactly a cost savings, especially because we eat a lot you guys. But still— it’s a journey, to say the least.

Journey pics:

(Yes we did spend HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS at Bucc-ees. And Ben was the most spendy, even though he started the whole stop out by saying we only had 10 minutes and setting a timer. And then suddenly he was CHANGING HIS SHIRT IN THE PARKING LOT. He also bought me and Minne matching 4th of July t’s. Jack got a button down (LOL), and Dorothy got Jibbitz for her Crocs AND jewelry. It was ludicrous.)

Our place was right on the beach and had a lovely pool. We went to the Sea Pines beach club every day, hit all of our favorite restaurants and shops and playgrounds. **chef’s kiss**

We got dressed up for dinner, ate Stu’s on the beach. I said fuck it and wore bikinis on this year’s body— very one had giant hair. We loved it!

One night we were all hungry and had to wait 90 minutes for a table, and Minnie was kind of losing it by the time we sat down and then! I found a random roll of washi tape in my purse, and she was happy all night. 3 year-olds are SO WEIRD.

Sea Pines is so great- it’s hard for us to leave until we have a solid plan to come back— that’s how much we love it. Can’t wait to see it again soon.

  3. That polka dot bikini is fire!!! You look fabulous and YES for just wearing the bikini. I am a huge fan of the two piece because how else do you pee without accidentally getting one-piece suit straps dragging on the disgusting floor of a public bathroom? Two pieces all the way.
Looks like an amazing vacation, I love a beachy getaway.

    1. YES— how do you pee in a one-piece and then get everything all stuffed back in where it goes? A mystery of adulting I will never solve, I guess.

This is Lisa. Yes you look amazing in bikinis! Go you! You make me wonder if I should try one on again and reassess. The high waisted ones look so cute!

What a wonderful trip for all of you! But gah big family travel is so expensive. That is probably why we really didn’t do any big travel. We went to the lake most weekends and had a camper for most of my childhood. Now my parents have a gorgeous lake home so my kids get cushy lake trips with all the toys (paddle boat, paddle board, jet ski, pontoon, boat). But I loved those lake weekends growing up so I didn’t like miss out on things. My kids will see and do far more than I ever did since we had kids so late in life and only have 2. We will have to keep this area in mind for a future trip although it is probably not great for spring since it’s either north. We learned that Destin was too far north even I April which was kind of surprising.

    1. Lands End swimsuits are where it’s at! We usually go in August, but the June weather was delightful, and it looks like mid-June will be our least busy time for a few years anyway, so we are going to make a routine of it. Last year, it was ok for spring break AND for the winter holidays, but we didn’t go because that’s never a sure thing…

I don’t comment very often, but I have to say this: you look fabulous in a two-piece suit for someone who has carried and given birth to FIVE HUMAN BEINGS!!🙌🏻 - Looks like a great time was had by all! ~R in NY

  7. The picture of Minnie in her swim suit doing the dance (?) is SO CUTE!
Looks like you had a wonderful, amazing time. Happy to see all the pictures. Your oldest two buys are... PEOPLE. I mean, I think about it sometimes, it's so funny how we give birth and they are all slimy, and purple, or grey, and covered in blood, and sometimes with meconium, and they can't do anything but move their mouths in search of a boob or a bottle. And then they become these PEOPLE.

  8. You rock the bikini! I love Lands End suits and am wondering why I have not bought one in recent years.

This trip looks fabulous. Do you go to the same place every year? I hear you on needing so many rooms for the family. This is why we camped in tents in national parks for years.

    1. We go to the same resort, but we stay in different places. We loved this condo on the beach, though, and will book it again!
