5 on a Friday: Cheap Thrills (37/52)

Here are 5 things under $40 that I love lately.

1. Clinique green sunscreen and primer: At $31, this stuff is saving my face from whatever weird red stuff is going on with it, and I would pay MUCH MORE.

2. Owala travel coffee mug: No yucky metal taste (like the Yeti— I hate how Yetis make my coffee taste) and an excellent lid that’s super easy to drink from. LOVE IT. (Also it is SO CUTE).

3. Target Brightroom storage cart: Harry got one for his dorm room, and when Jack and Coop started sharing the downstairs bathroom (Coop moved from the one Dorothy and Minnie share to downstairs so we have 2 people per bathroom), I got one for him and Jack to store their grooming products in, and they stash it in the storage room across the hall and just roll it into the bathroom to use. Probably we should just replace the mirror in there with a medicine cabinet, but until then… (I can’t handle things left out on counters in a bathroom or bathroom shelves either— things get dusty and then the dust gets sticky and YUCK. ONLY hand soap on bathroom counters for me thanks.)

4. SMALL water bottles. I have been lugging around 40 ounces of water for years now, but Dorothy and I recently SIZED DOWN in water bottles, and I really like a smaller, lighter option, too. (Minnie uses the 20 oz Stanley and also an Owala kids— she loves them both).

5. A new leo to kick off the dance season! Of all the choices at her studio’s cute little shop, Minnie settled on… plain white.

  1. SARAH ARE WE ON THE SAME WAVELENGTH? My Favourite Things this month is on theme "cheap thrills!!!" It's coming out next week, so I'll be riding your coattails! Except mine is all things under $10. Minnie's so cute!

  2. Minnie knows how to pick a classic! And you know what else is perfect? That Target storage cart--I have tons of gifts I keep stashed away and this would be perfect for organizing them. Thanks!

  3. So- do you have rosacea? I'm asking because I do, and it's been flaring up horrible lately (arrrrg!) I'm wondering if that sunscreen would help.
I'm also interested in that travel mug- I have one that I love in every way, except, it does have a tiny bit of a strange taste.
I like a smaller water bottle too!

  5. Can never go wrong with white - classy, simple, tasteful, will show the snack stains super well lol.
Eve's is from IKEA, but those storage carts are gold.
Do Stanley straws fold down so you can throw them in a bag? Or are they always to be carried? I've always been curious about that.

  6. I just finally got an Owala water bottle and I love it so much! I never got into Stanleys for some reason. I think cause the straw is just always sticking up? And they seem top heavy? But now I want to try the Owala coffee mug too!

  7. I bought an Owala for myself and I heard it here first. This was the first place I heard of it, no kidding. Of course I hear of them everywhere now. You are on the cutting edge, my friend. You would not last a day at our house with your nothing on the bathroom countertops rule. Or, maybe my kids wouldn't last a day in your house. Don't worry, I have no plans to test the theory. The white leotard is sweet - she always looks like a doll.

  8. Congrats on all of your excellent purchases! I work from home and never go anywhere, so a plain glass is fine for my water. But my friend bought me a HUGE Yeti with my name on it and everything. I think perhaps I'm more the water bottle type person, though, since I don't really drink coffee. We'll see if/how this changes when I have to start commuting 1 - 1.5 hours each way to work in January. UGH. So pointless.

  9. We are opposites! I cannot stand the plastic-y taste of most water bottles. Even with my Zojirushi travel mug, I take off the lid because it has a plastic lip so I can drink directly from the metal. I also am anti-straw and I know you disagree with me on this. I guess our differences explain why there are a million different travel mug options.

  10. I love Dr. Jart's redness cream - I forget the name, it's something ridiculous. I don't use it as much as I should, though. My redness has gotten a lot better with my skincare routine - I swear by La Roche Posay now. It has made a real difference in my skin!

  11. I am so intrigued by the Owala mugs. I also don't care for the metal taste.
