OK NOW THIS ONE IS APROPOS.
I have a couple things to talk about under the heading of disaster.
LET'S START WITH MY FACE.
From the nose down, my face is beet red ALL OF THE TIME. WHAT IN THE ACTUAL HELL.
I know that my Augustinus Bader rich cream does not irritate my face because it looks awesome when I go to bed. SO. It is something I am using in the morning.
Aveeno calming face wash? I used this FOREVER but the calming line was recently rebranded and reformatted, so maybe? I also use it before bed, but I wash my face at night in the shower, so maybe it's a less soap/more water scenario that my skin likes better? Just to be safe, I bought a CeraVe cleanser from Target to try.
Lancome Renergie night cream that I use in the morning? Almost certainly this is the culprit, but I had a bunch left and didn't want to stop using it.
Lancome UV Expert? This smells amazing so probably is also not good for my skin. But! I need sunscreen!
Tarte tinted moisturizer?? I don't think so, but I also do not think it HELPS.
(I have a green Clinique SPF primer that is FOR red skin, but it also seems to be an irritant)
(I have tried Clinique daytime moisturizers with SPF, and they have all made my face red and angry, even the green lotion that is for red skin)
The problem is that Augustinus Bader does not come with sunscreen, so I need something with an SPF. I bought Neutrogena Hydroboost because it is supposed to be good for sensitive skin, and it is OK-- a little thicker than I would like it to be, and I still have redness around my mouth. But for $15 I can be a sport.
I have been slathering Minnie in CeraVe ointment since she was born, so I also snagged their serum and daytime moisturizer-- CROSS YOUR FINGERS FOR ME. Anyone else with rosacea have any moisturizer with SPF recs?
Ok, disaster number 2: MY OVEN. We got it fixed (under the warranty) to discover the heating element was cracked in half, which totally explains why it was having trouble heating.
BUT NOW WHY DOES IT SUCK?
It is still just not the right temp, cannot quite get hot enough for frozen things (frozen pizza is like 48% of what gets made in our kitchen), and cannot maintain a target temp accurately enough to make cookies that aren't flat. **whine whine whine** I think more repairs are coming (the warranty communication is... unsatisfying). BUT IT IS HOLIDAY COOKIE SEASON, DARN IT.
As disasters go, these are pretty mild, I guess...
Oh no, a broken oven is always a pain but it's cookie season! Sorry, no advice on the face cream. In winter I use Ilia tinted skin serum with spf 40, rather than a separate sunscreen. In summer it's Neutrogena sheer face sunscreen spf 60.
ReplyDeleteI have no advice on the face issues, but will just say that apparently my face cannot handle like ANY skin care products. I have tried so many different things and it always either irritates my skin or makes me break out. My skin seems happiest if I basically put nothing on it. Ha. Which is obviously not what the "skin care experts" recommend for antiaging/ wrinkle prevention purposes.... I always WANT to use all the things and creams, but every time I try, I end up regretting it... Basically my current skincare routine is washing with a gentle Cerave cleanser and then just using the Cerave "Ultralight moisturizer with 30 spf" (even at night). I am sure I should be using some heavier cream or serums and I used to use a retinol, but my skin seems too finnicky and apparently just wants to be left alone...
ReplyDeleteIt’s not a moisturizer, but highly recommend EltaMD UV Clear sunscreen (spf 46) for sensitive skin
ReplyDeleteI too use EltaMD and was going to comment with it. Although I do not have sensitive skin. It is one of the cheaper Dermatologist approved buys.
DeleteI use the Neutrogena Invisible Daily Defense Face Serum & Sunscreen. I have rosacea, although I have the zit kind of rosacea not the redness kind, and the Neutrogena has been a godsend; I wear it daily. Sometimes if my face feels extra dry I apply it on top of the CeraVe Skin Renewing Night Cream.
ReplyDeleteThe oven thing is so frustrating! I hope the repairs are forthcoming and you can bake cookies and pizza again soon.
You have the worst luck with appliances. Argh!!!!
ReplyDeleteI have troublesome skin as well and I can't say enough about the Cera Ve line. I finally gave up on all the expensive things that smell great because my skin eventually hates all of them. Love their vitamin C serum and the night cream in particular!
ReplyDeleteFor SPF, I use a Beauty Counter product but I think their website was down for months when it was purchased by a private equity firm and I am not sure if it's back up yet. I have sensitive skin and this works very well for me, it's also very thin and doesn't give you a chalky look like some SPF does! You and Jenny are posting twins because she posted about rosacea today, too!! (runnersfly.com)
ReplyDeleteOoooookay. It's funny (but not the ha ha kind) because I just wrote a post about rosacea today- I would say mine is more of a disaster than yours (but we'll never really know because I wasn't willing to post a photo). Yours REALLY does not look that bad! But I agree- it's a huge pain to figure out what's irritating your skin. And with rosacea, so many things do. I'm more of an example of what not to do, so unfortunately I can't help.
ReplyDeleteI don't get it, your face is beautiful, I kiss it, mwah. But if it FEELS angry that is very not good. I don't do sunscreen in the winter because apparently I am resigned to looking like a leather handbag any day now, although my mom doesn't either and she looks very young for her age - we are fat and oily, it helps. I use Dove and Rodan and Fields Reverse cleanser alternately, and Oil of Olay for sensitive skin with Maritime naturals retinol cream every few nights.
ReplyDeleteIt IS terrible not having a working oven at any time, but ESPECIALLY Christmas freaking cookie time. This will not stand!
I use the CeraVe daytime moisturizer and love it.
