Another random word that made me giggle, all by myself in the library as I work on stacking up library holds before books are even released. HOW NOT SPONTANEOUS IS THAT?
As I have really discovered in my time-track Tuesdays, I am a Very Scheduled Person, and that's how I like to live my life. Certain things happen at certain times every single day. I always do word games on my phone from 5-2:25. I always work out on the elliptical from 5:40-6:40-ish. I always spend my early evenings in the car doing large loops around my town, picking up kids and dropping them off and then picking them up again. I always take a shower before bed and go to sleep with wet hair and wake up wondering why I am not already gorgeous. (Also I always listen to my current audio book in the shower).
I even get into pretty hardore food patterns. Right now, I MUST eat an everything bagel with whipped cream cheese and lox every morning for breakfast.
Having an unpredictable puppy helps get me out of my routine rut (but even she is a sweet little creature of habit and always goes to bed at the same time every night, for example). Maybe my love of a consistent schedule is why I love little kids so much-- we just get each other.
I feel so seen! I am also an incredibly scheduled person, in that it always kind of throws me a little when there are new plans. Like tonight, a WEDNESDAY, I am going out with the girls to dinner and a show. This is craziness! I'm excited about it but it feels strange to have plans on a Wednesday. Little kids and dogs - Rex is also the most structured dog, and so was Barkley, and I think it's because of their rigid dog mom.
ReplyDeleteHa ha- hilarious picture of Minnie. I also like my schedules. I guess "spontaneous" isn't really a word that fits me either. Life woks better when I don't have to think about things too much.
ReplyDeleteI like to have some structure, but don't follow a rigid schedule, I don't think? I have yogurt and fruit every morning for breakfast, have for years now. If I travel and forget my yogurt I am thrown a little.
ReplyDeleteLucy is not firm on getting-up time - she follows the house. but wow, does she ever know when it is five o'clock and time for dinner and she will be ALL UP IN YOUR GRILL if you are not similarly aware. From a dead sleep to standing on your face.
That photo of Minnie . . . she's a hoot. The face! I'm a creature of habit too. I slept until it was too late to workout today and I really WANTED that kind of sleep, so I'm trying to convince myself that it's OK that I didn't have time for a workout . . . but, is it? Can I win that argument with myself, or will I jump on the bike at nap time? I'm an early morning workout type, so I think I'll just power thru and shrug it off. I eat the same thing every breakfast and lunch and even my snacks are the same (I think this has more to do with celiac than anything else). I am not as scheduled as you are in terms of cleaning bathrooms in the morning. I wish I was, but alas.
ReplyDeleteWe are spontaneous people when it comes to making plans socially, (see also: too busy to think in advance and living a day at a time), and then everyone we try to hang with already has plans. Boo.
I absolutely thrive on routine, so I get it!
ReplyDeleteI'm the same. I am not spontaneous at all and I am fine with that. I don't like surprises either. Like everyone who knows me well knows that they should NEVER THROW ME A SURPRISE PARTY. Absolutely not. I mean if they could put something on my schedule saying we have a surprise for you from 5-7 pm on Feb 7th, that'd be fine. But please, only scheduled surprises. I'm super fun.
ReplyDeleteSpontaneity is NOT MY THING. I need to know what my week is going to look like and I cannot be asked to go to dinner without at least a few days' notice. And listen, you GOTTA have a schedule when you have 5 kids with two full-time working parents. There's no way anything would get done if not!
ReplyDeleteI like a certain amount of schedule, but can be convinced to be a bit spontaneous by my very spontaneous husband, who pretty much thinks I'm a stick in the mud if I don't. He's right of course. It's something I work on. If you like doing the same thing at the same time every day, a dog is a great pet. They get a timer in their head about when it's time for their walk, when it's time for dinner, etc.
