WE WENT TO A BALL last weekend, you guys!!!
It was so fun to get super dressed up and have an adult night out.
I bleached the ever loving shit out of my teeth (they still hurt!)I also ended up ditching my sheer black dotted hose (even though the dots matched the tiny rhinestones on the giant bow I wore on my low-tech chignon) because they were too dark and went with bare legs at the last minuteAfter dinner and the program (it was a fundraiser for a state-of-the-art cancer center) Earth, Wind & Fire gave a private concert, which was of course really awesome.
We stayed the night at Ben’s Peoria place and then turned into pumpkins the next morning when we went home to our kids.
Our kids! Who stayed home with their LEGAL ADULT BROTHER in charge— having a literal adult kid is a GAME CHANGER. We suddenly cannot wait for our 20th anniversary this summer.
(I pregamed with ice cream from my favorite place in the world, natch)
I WAS HOPING FOR PICTURES. It looks like such a magical evening. I've never been to a ball (and tend not to do well with fancy, but I can DREAM that I'd fit in, right?).
ReplyDeleteI don't have a kid old enough to leave home overnight alone, but having a teen old enough to watch her little brothers for consecutive hours is a game changer for sure! Last weekend, my husband and I did like 3 hours of errands sans kids and it was like a mini holiday. Even though they can buckle themselves and walk around stores and such, it's still easier without them a lot of the time. I am not upset to be at this stage in parenting!!!
Oh, you look gorgeous! Glad you had a great time.
ReplyDeleteBut did your husband buy good dress shoes or the cheaper ones? Inquiring minds want to know.
I love having older kids, and kids who can drive and run errands. Or leave home for a week while we took a trip this summer. She worked, streamed movies, took care of the cats, and only suffered one tornado warning. And she bought juice, bread, and eggs for our return. Gold star for adult kids!
Oh how fun! You guys look INCREDIBLE! I'm glad you were able to stay overnight and enjoy yourselves without worrying about the kids. It really does get easier as they get older!
ReplyDeleteWow - you look amazing. You both clean up real good. ;) Love that dress. How great that your spouse has his own pad. It sounds like a great time.
ReplyDeleteI agree, being comfortable leaving kids home overnight is a game changer. We once left the 3 older boys home for the weekend when we took the 3 youngest to an Irish dancing competition in MN. Lad was 16, so technically we weren't supposed to leave them. My parents live walking distance to us though. The worst thing that happened was Lad dropped his phone in water and used enough rice to solve world hunger to try to fix it. When my sister found out that we left them home alone, she was very scoldy and frowny.
Ice cream to pregame for the win.
I was going to say something about your dress and your general gorgeousness but then EARTH WIND AND FIRE HAD A PRIVATE CONCERT WHAT THE WHAT! WHAT AM I EVEN DOING WITH MY LIFE????
ReplyDeleteOoh! Adulting is fun sometimes! I would love to see Earth Wind and Fire! I bet that was a hoot. How old are they anyway; they must be getting up there!
ReplyDeleteI know I hearted these pictures before, but the commentary makes them even lovelier! Top marks on wardrobe and smiles for both of you! (Was it David Sedaris's mom who told him not to bleach his teeth before a party where he plans to eat? I'm old! I forget...)
ReplyDeleteThis looks amazing. You look amazing. Heck you both. I love it. How wonderful you could enjoy this night out.
ReplyDeleteEarth. Wind. AND FIRE. Your dress is ALSO FIRE. Please tell me how to bleach the ever-loving crap out of my teeth, the pain will be worth it. Did Minnie feel secure with the other team being in control? Eve didn't even like Matt watching her overnight alone.
ReplyDeleteYou guys look amazing! I love your dress! And how wonderfuk that you could leave the kids with their adult sibling! Let me tell you, my parents could not really do that because my brothers were hellions. I do remember being left with my brother once and he had a huge party. I was recruited to pick up beer cans. I think my little sister was in the house as well. I am kind of scarred from that experience. Ha. But there is so much surveillance these days with ring cameras and such. So it would be quite apparent if someone was having a party these days!
ReplyDeleteWoohoo - you look amazing! Va-va-va-voom - five kids what what!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a fun evening out with Ben and got to have one of your CHILDREN watch your OTHER CHILDREN. Amazing!!
