Road Trip

Minor rant: When you spend over $400/night on hotels for your giant family and break your road trip into 2 overnights each way because weather, a road trip is not a cost saver. I AM JUST SCARED TO FLY. Anyone want to go on a quick weekend vacay with me in the next couple months so I can practice flying before dance and dive nats? I AM SO FUN.

Truly, I have been in a BLACK MOOD since we left our house. MY  FAMILY IS SO LUCKY TO HAVE ME.

I love my car, though, you guys. We put the extra seat in the middle row and put Minnie in the middle of that row, and it is a game changer! She has TONS of space, and Jack and Dorothy (next to her on either side) have… enough.. space. Harry and Cooper are on the third row, and they, too, are ok. We put a car topper on top, and it is sort of windy between storms, so that’s freaky. We changed our route to avoid (MOST OF) the mountains and add a ridiculous stop (more about that tomorrow— don’t want to jinx it because it is a BUCKET LIST item for me, literally), and we are currently trying to dodge two giant storm bands and avoid night driving.

Pre-trip mani/pedi

Her little hands.
Dorothy, too, of course, but we are right now white-knuckling it through a mountain tunnel (WILL OUR CAR TOPPER FIT?), and the picture I took of her at the salon won’t load. STORY OF HER LIFE.

They still love a crappy hotel pool.

Jack doesn’t, but Minnie asked him very nicely to “please lifeguard me,” so what could he do?

Girls’ room— Dorothy was hanging out with the boys, who had a bigger room

She really makes herself comfy

We had pizza twice yesterday. I ate a salad WITH my lunch pizza, but when dinner rolled around, I could NOT have pizza again, so I got a (terrible) salad and added boneless wings. LOL/sob. Today, I am going to try to eat like an adult. I missed hotel breakfast because we needed to leave fast (storms), but I HAVE had a super sugary Dunkin coffee and a Zbar— baby steps.

Monical’s has THE BEST side salads— the whole fam gets in on the act. It’s a gateway salad.

Sad Kentucky pizza place salad though? **sad trombone**

(I am still angry about yesterday's food— that’s how crabby I am, you guys).

Ok this is my 3rd attempt to comment. Please delete the accidentally published precious comments. Sheesh. I love how Minnie is spreading her legs in that last photo to further infringe on her siblings space. Oh the wrath that would bring out of Paul if Taco did that!!

I loathe car trips so much so could not do what you are doing! But I am sure your kids are conditioned to handle long road trips. My nephew will graduate from HS in the Chicago area this spring. I told my mom I will probably go and just bring Taco. And she said - so you’ll drive. I was like - are you out of your mind! We will definitely fly because 7 hours in a car alone with a 4yo sounds like torture. But the boys are great plane travelers. And for me, getting on a plane is like getting on a bus since I do it so dang often.

  2. I love a car trip (haaaaaaate air travel, no thank you, even though it is how I end up traveling more often than not) but storms and especially WIND would have me so on edge! Love Minnie' taking up room in the middle seat! Her seat companions don't seem bothered. ;-)

Hoping that your Bucket List visit goes well and that you get some Real Food!

  3. I despise travel of all kinds - car, train, plane. WHY HASN'T TELEPORTATION BEEN INVENTED YET?

  4. Dang it. I get really grouchy when we go places to eat while traveling and the GF options suck. It takes a lot for me to snap out of it. I hope amazing meals are on the agenda for you today. I feel like I missed something - did you mention where you are heading on your road trip? I will fly with you somewhere to practice flying before you have to travel for your kids' stuff. Minnie's car-spreading is cracking me up. One day when basketball seasons are no longer a thing for us, I wonder if we will get out of dodge after Christmas for a bit. I hope you avoid the storms and have an amazing time.

  5. I am also scared to fly. Eve still complains about long car trips lol. I would like to start eating like an adult again but not cooking like an adult.

  6. While you’re working on this fear, don’t check the news out of South Korea…. 😬😬😬

  7. The fear of flying has to be SO TOUGH. I hope you're able to conquer it someday. <3 Never read a TJ Newman book, though! That definitely will not help your fear.

Happy vacationing - hopefully, the food sitch gets better.

  8. Ha, I can see why Jack and Dorothy have barely enough room in the car. But- it also looks fun! I can't wait to hear more about this trip!
