5 on a Friday: Things I will miss about Harry

 1. It was SO WONDERFUL to wake up every day for the past 5 weeks and know that all my kids were also waking up in the same house and I knew where every one was and I could feed them and take care of them and this is why people hate their mothers in law, isn’t it.

2. It was also WONDERFUL to have another drive and another big bro, although I will say that Jack has really stepped up in this regard since Harry moved out.

3. Harry is even more terminally online than I am, so it was SO NICE to have another person LOCKED IN to everything political happening and reading all the breaking news headlines. Ben has zero patience for my doom scrolling, and I will very much miss having a partner in crime, even though I will probably be better off without an internet enabler.

4.  Harry has been eating crappy dorm food for months, so he was VERY HAPPY to eat home food, whereas the rest of us are just used to it and complain about it.

5.  Harry, Jack, Ben and I played SO MUCH euchre! This is not the same without him because we play in life partnerships, and he and Jack are brothers, best friends, and colleagues, so it’s perfect.

BREAK IS OVER, and he drove his own self back to campus like a grown up. He’s in Minnesota for a speech tourney this weekend and is committed 3 weekends next month, but still! He has promised to come home one weekend in February, and we will see him over Spring break in March. Not sure about April, but he will be home for the summer in May! That’s practically tomorrow.

  1. That was a nice long break he had! Mark is 30 minutes away so he comes home for Sunday dinner every week (and to do his laundry). But last week one of his roommates had norovirus so he stayed two nights with us and commuted, and one evening he was digging into some cinnamon loaf I had made and sighed "Oh god, the food is so good here." SARAH. It was the best thing ever. He eats in the dining hall about a third of the time, the rest of the time he cooks in his dorm (his quad has a little kitchen).

It is so great to have college kids home for a long break but so hard to send them back! My daughter is a freshman at UW and I keep secretly hoping she’ll be in the background of one of your campus pictures! Or maybe something Kae posts when she’s in Madison!

  3. It must be so hard to have them go back to school like that. My daughter lived at home while in college (and still does, failure to launch around here), so I never had to go through this stuff.

  4. Yes, it's hard to say goodbye every single time!!! But you're right- May is practically tomorrow.

Awww this made me a little teary. You are such a good mom, Sarah. It’s the goal, right, to raise them so they feel confident enough to take on the world and loved enough that they want to come home (at least sometimes).

    (This is Suzanne btw.)

  6. Tank is always texting us some crazy bad news stuff that he sees online, I swear, before ANYONE ELSE. Like his finger in on the pulse of all the bad news. How?

Is Harry sewing? I have a few dresses that I just love and I keep wondering if I could just make one on my sewing machine. Translation: I'm itching to do a sewing project, but when?

For my daycare, I always feel like 2nd semester flies by, because soon the weather will be great and we will be outside more and there are breaks in there, and Yeah, May is right around the corner. I miss my college guys so much. It is nice when the next in line steps up.

  7. How lovely that you have a semester's worth of visits mapped out. It's tough sending those college kids back, but Harry is doing such awesome things!
