OK. Like for real. I know that my hair looks terrible UNLESS I blow dry my bangs before I go to bed. AND YET. I keep NOT DOING THAT and looking DUMB. Like the other day when I had to film a video for social media for my class that I direct. AND HAD TERRIBLE HAIR and also was wearing beige and had 14 chins. I LOVE IT SO MUCH. (I do not love it. Opposite, in fact).
Dorothy needs white Air Force 1's for her trio and a group dance and black Air Force 1's for her other hip hop group dance. NEAT-O. I love buying $90 shoes, so why not need 2 of the same ones in different colors? Love that for me. I was talking to a colleague about dance team (they also have a kid at the same studio) and we were trying to figure out why this very expensive and kind of nit-picky activity is so compelling for us (BECAUSE IT IS! IT'S SO FUN!). (We had to order SPECIFIC lipsticks as well-- different colors for different dances and maybe it's these details that I love the most?)
IT IS SO COLD THAT SCHOOL WAS ALMOST CANCELLED TODAY.
I am Team Winter, but YIKES. Negative 13 for Annabel's dog walk. (Naturally Dorothy and Coop got cold drinks when I drove them to school so they wouldn't have to wait for the bus)
AIRPLANES KEEP FALLING OUT OF THE SKY. Is anyone else freaked out about this?

ReplyDeleteThere's no school here today due to the -30F windchill. Paul isn't 100% from his stomach bug so would have been home anyways. I fly out this afternoon so Phil had to WFH which was not optimal. The plane crashes are unnerving. But I reminded myself that 45k flights take off each day across the world so while plane crashes seem eerily common, they are still quite rare. But the crash landing yesterday hit close to home since it departed from MSP!
ReplyDeleteDang, dance team is expensive. It seems like you would have to have a certain level of affluence to afford all the clothing/shoes/etc. And then I think about the environmental impact - like are those kids going to wear those shoes/make it worth the purchase? I have no idea since my kids are so small and wear one pair of shoes until they have grown out of them and then hand them down to the other sibling if they aren't destroyed...
I guess that's the one positive of the dance shoes being "cool" kid shoes-- she DOES wear them when the season is over because tweens love AF1's. The other shoes-- especially tap and jazz-- are also pricey but we have saved the outgrown ones for Minnie
DeleteWell that is great then! At least the shoes gets worn a ton and the less exciting ones can get passed along to Minnie! And I have no idea why my comment posted twice! Sheesh!
DeleteAs someone whose husband is almost constantly in the sky right now, YES IT DOES FREAK ME OUT THANKS FOR ASKING. My daughter texted yesterday because yesterday's crash was at the airport he flies into all the time. "Is Dad home?" "Nope, but he's not on the upside down plane" SO FUN.
ReplyDeleteI almost had to get off a Facetime call with Eve last night because I was in bed on the ipad and I looked so hideous.
LOL-- I have done that exact thing re: facetime (But I usually actually DO leave)
DeleteThe cold is cold! I do not like it when the highs are not above zero. Can we go back to the 20s? I'll take the 20s.
ReplyDeleteIT IS SO COLD
DeleteOMG, Sarah!! I am so freaked out about the plane happenings, but didn't want to post anything because I knew you were trying to get on a plane this year. WTELF!?!?!
ReplyDeleteHATE IT
DeleteI am forever grateful to Kyria because when she was in the Bay Area for Christmas, we got together and we visited the kittens at the rescue where I had just started volunteering, and she took some selfies of us with one of the kittens, and I had 85 chins (or really, one ginormous one) and she showed me the picture on her phone but I didn't see it really because I didn't have my reading glasses on, but when she sent it to me on a text I was MORTIFIED. So I am grateful that she never posted that on her blog. Perhaps that should be one of my FIGs?
ReplyDeleteLOL-- great FIG
DeleteThe flight situation is unnerving. I feel like we are sort of in a sci fi movie script and we are unaware of the plot/unaware we are pawns in this damn movie. I agree with Lisa though, there are so many flights daily. This is not the norm. Right?
ReplyDeleteI hated those 'must have' details about Irish dancing. I felt like Irish dancing had become more of an elitist thing and less about wanting to join something related to our heritage. Curly and I met with her former Irish dancing teacher for lunch yesterday. So much fun. She and Curly are super tight, but we don't see her much. There are so many parts of ID that I do not miss.
I oe that you still keep in touch-- the relationships in these activities are definitely the best part
Deletelove, not oe LOL
DeleteEgads. That's cold! I'm always baffled when I see people's photos from the frozen tundra and they're drinking ice cold drinks. WHY??? If I were up there I would be guzzling hot tea 24/7 just to stay alive.
ReplyDeleteI'll be flying in a couple months. This siuation cannot continue... can it?
IT IS SO COLD. I am really not usually bothered by it, but it just sort of wears me out after awhile.
DeleteI have never been scared of flying but I am starting to feel like I may need to stay off planes for the foreseeable future. It's ROUGH.
ReplyDeleteGahhh... dance is so expensive! And all the other activities your kids do, I'm sure!
I Facetime with my mom daily and I'm always mad about my 14 chins. Can't you make me look better, iPhone?!
LOL-- that's what AI should be good for, right ? Making us look better on camera
DeleteI flew out of DCA a week after the crash, but I remind myself flying is way safer than driving. I am however terrified of driving, so that's what I need to work on :)
