Solid Meh
Mercy by Jodi Picoult: I mean, even a bad Jodi Picoult book is better than most books. **Audio
Elphie: A Wicked Childhood by Gregory Maguire: I just... didn't like this or feel like it added anything to the story. And! I have seen Wicked on stage 4 times and read the OG book the year it came out. I AM A FAN. **2025
The Wife Upstairs by Freida McFadden: You guys know this is a weakness of mine, these terrible, terrible books. **Audio
Back After This by Linda Holmes: I really like this author, but this was not the book for me. **2025
Beautiful Ugly by Alice Feeney: I really could not get into this one. I might listen to it and like it better? **2025
Better than Meh but Worse Than Good
Close Your Eyes and Count to 10 by Lisa Unger: I liked but did not love this thriller. **2025
The Snowbirds by Christina Clancy: I liked this one sort of. **2025
Deep End by Ali Hazelwood: THIS WAS WAAAAAAAY TOO LONG. **2025 **Audio
Some Backlist Gems
Abide with Me by Elizabeth Strout: Oh this book!! I recommend. **Audio
The Senator's Wife by Liv Constantine: This was so entertaining because the bag guys were wretched people. **Audio
The Means by Amy Fusselman: HILARIOUS AND WONDERFUL. The author also writes for McSweeney's, and you can totally tell.
In the BOTY Race**

Abide With Me was a real sleeper hit for me! I read it in the fall and it was so great. I love Strout.
ReplyDeletePicoult though. Everything she writes is meh for me. I've just stopped reading
Well, I scooted right over to the library website to put a hold on Three Days in June. I haven't read any Anne Tyler in a long time, but I do love her books. This one sounds like a good one.
ReplyDeleteI already had a few of your favourites on my holds list! I just went to add them and realized I'm already waiting! Will report back :)
ReplyDeleteI listened to The Wife Upstairs on a road trip last summer and...uhh...LOL.
ReplyDeleteThe Good Mother Myth seems like it checks off so many geographical, personal, and academic interests for you! Putting that and the Montimore on my TBR.
ReplyDeleteI meant to read The Good Mother Myth but it turns out there are 2 books with that exact same title and I checked out the wrong one. But the one I wanted to read was not available on libby so now I need to read the physical book. I'm the opposite of you and nearly exclusively read on my kindle. I will likely not listen to a single audio book this year and I rarely read physical books!
ReplyDeleteI'm reading Back After This and am loving it! I need to set a bedtime alarm because I keep reading and reading and then stay up later than is ideal.
I just put several of these on hold at my library, thank you! I've not read any of them, but I adore Elizabeth Strout, Anne Tyler, and Geraldine Brooks. You know how I feel about Picoult. Still looking forward to hearing your thoughts on 'My Sister's Keeper'.
ReplyDeleteI also liked The Snowbirds. Not loved but definitely liked.
ReplyDeleteCurtis Sittenfeld, Anne Tyler YES!
I love Geraldine Brooks. I don't like Jodi Picoult. I loved the Curtis Sittenfeld I read and should read more. Eve read her first Freida McFadden and was hilariously unimpressed. There is still NEW Anne Tyler? Where have I been?
